There’s a storm coming!
Stormy Daniels returns to feature dancingThat face on this issue’s cover should be recognized to most club owners as Stormy Daniels, undeniably one of the most popular women in adult entertainment, has returned to featuring dancing after a short hiatus to concentrate on her career as an adult film screenwriter and director. During her decade in the business, Stormy was honored as a two-time Exotic Dancer Overall Entertainer of the Year nominee and winner of the Adult Movie Feature of the Year Award in 2006. She transitioned easily from the stage to movies to an abundance of mainstream exposure—including thoughts of running for the U.S. Senate— after receiving critical acclaim from her work with Wicked Pictures, where she has been a contract performer since 2002. Now, while still white-hot in the porn realm, Stormy has once again taken to the road through A-List Features.
“My first love in the adult industry has been dancing, but I was getting burnt out; for 10 years I was constantly on the road and maybe spent one week a month in my own bed,” says Stormy. “As much as I loved dancing, I needed to take that time off to refocus on my other endeavors as well as get reenergized to go back out on the road and come back with new movies and new projects.” Originally a house dancer at the Gold Club in Baton Rouge, Daniels now splits her time between Las Vegas and Los Angeles, where she continues to write, direct and star in original productions for Wicked. Prior to resuming her feature career, Stormy danced for six weeks at the renowned Palomino club in Vegas to help get her groove back.
“I picked that club because they don’t run features; it’s off the strip and honestly I hadn’t worn heels in a long time and I knew that if I went directly back to featuring without practice, I would probably kill myself on the first night,” Stormy says with a laugh. “It was a good way for me to warm up. But I realize that I’m a terrible house dancer; I’m too nice. I can’t hustle! I’ll talk to a guy forever without asking if they want a dance or not. Back when I was house dancing, being a great conversationalist was much more lucrative than simply asking guy after guy, ‘Hey, wanna dance?’”With a desire to keep club owners just as curious as the customers, Stormy has only kept a few of her acts from before. Her “Girl Scout” show is still popular, as is her “Pirate” routine, but Stormy, ever the creator, chooses not to repeat her performances from club after club and keeps around 40 costumes to remain fresh in the eyes of fans on both sides of the bar.
“It amazes me that features are choosing not to do real feature shows anymore,” says Stormy. “But I also realize that at any given club I feature at, there is always going to be a girl that is younger, hotter or a better dancer, so I have to do something to set myself apart for those customers who don’t know who I am. And those are the guys I want to help club owners win over. Sure, my name on the marquee is definitely going to bring in the Stormy fans, but they’re only going to come in that one time; I want to give the club regulars a great show and win new fans by getting their attention by what is happening on stage.”
Stormy will also be concentrating on producing films for Wicked while promoting her website (www.StormyDaniels.com) and her latest ventures in the adult product and apparel realm ... when she isn’t touring as a feature, of course.
“Feature dancing helped me get to be where I am today,” she says. “I’m thrilled to be going back on the road and showing club owners and fans that the sensuality and showmanship once so closely associated to this business hasn’t been lost for good.“ — Kristofer Kay
